22 May 2010 has gone into history as Bitcoin Pizza day. It has become a memorable event. The first purchase related Bitcoin transaction ever, a man paid for two pizzas with 10.000 Bitcoin.
According to an article last year by Aaron Hankin from Investopedia the pizza was worth 20 Million dollars in 2017. Bitcoin became physical for the first time. Now eight years later there are many ways to exchange bitcoins for value.
The cryptocurrency Bitcoin compared to last year has risen four times in value, the pizza would be worth over 84 Million dollars today. Expensive pizza!
Laszlo Hanyecz agreed to pay 10.000 Bitcoins on May 22, 2010, for two delivered Papa John’s pizzas. The events were organized on bitcointalk, a bitcoin forum. Laszlo mentioned:” I like things like onions, peppers, sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes, pepperoni, etc.. just standard stuff no weird fish topping or anything like that. ”
If we would look at the green peppers alone and estimate that about 0.5 pounds were used for two pizzas. We could then estimate that just the green peppers on the pizza alone would be worth 1.35 Million Dollar today or Million Euro according to the price index on Coinmotion. Hypothetically speaking Denarium’s physical bitcoin gold coin would have been worth 0.001 EUR.
Happy Bitcoin Pizza day!
